Early this week I got a visit to my studio from a client of mine. I have been working on this commission piece for him, that was based upon an older painting that I completed and sold several years ago. We decided to change the original piece up a bit. We added in a lot more golds and blues that will compliment his already styled home. More layers will come to add even more depth. But, he is happy... and so am I! It was thrilling to see the look on his face. After all, a picture never does a painting justice!
The commission process is something I do a lot. There are a lot of variables in my work, and I only paint one of a kind pieces. So, once something is sold it is gone. This creates a demand from clients for me to repaint for them the piece they loved, but didn't jump on buying soon enough.
I have created all sorts of different commission paintings for clients. The process is very rewarding for both of us. I love painting something so personal for someone. It also challenges me when I find myself putting imagery to someone's story. I learn so much about my clients, and connect with them in such a personal way. I am able to customize their painting from colors, words, imagery, size, patterns, and textures. It is like getting a tailored suit designed just for you!
I love what I do. I love being able to make people so happy. Mostly I love meeting and connecting with so many people. I have learned so many amazing and inspirational stories. It fuels me, and feeds my creativity.
